New Bike Park

WILLIAMS LAKE CYCLING CLUB AND CITY OF WILLIAMS LAKE TO CONSTRUCT WORLD CLASS BIKE PARK IN BOITANIO PARK

Williams Lake – City Council recently approved the construction of a bike park in Boitanio Park. The park, to begin constriction in July, has been professionally designed by one of world’s premier park designers and will continue to enhance the mountain bike experience and associated tourism opportunities in the Cariboo.

The city, the Cariboo Regional District and club have been working collaboratively on this proposal since the fall of 2009, and City Council approved the proposal through the Joint Committee on April 29th.

“The lack of a Bike Park in Williams Lake has meant a significant gap in the riding experience here, which the Cycling Club has been trying to fill for a number of years. The city’s support of this proposal will continue to provide local and visiting riders with a world class experience,” says Mark Savard, club director.

The city and CRD will be providing $45,000 to support the construction of the park, which will cost a total $212,850. The Williams Lake Cycling Club has mobilized a significant contribution to the park through the support of local businesses including Pioneers Log Homes, RB Backhoe Services, United Concrete and more.

“This is a great example of the City and CRD working with a community group to develop a much needed recreational facility for youth. Credit goes to the Williams Lake Cycling Club who has been working hard behind the scenes to make this project a reality,” says Mayor Kerry Cook.

More information on the bike part will be available at the club’s annual fundraiser. Go to the Gibraltar Room on Saturday, May 8th, at 7:00 p.m. to learn more and view two bike films.
