Great Season Draws To A Close

WILLIAMS LAKE – With snow starting to fly and the darkness deep by work’s end, the second Puddlebike summer winds down. The Williams Lake Cycling Club held their wrap-up directors meeting last week and all in attendance agreed it was a great season and the groundwork for next year looks even better.

Club riders enjoyed the summer with activities like the Boitanio Mall Bike Rodeo, the Jubal Wright Classic Bike Weekend, the Puddlebike-Ryan Leech Fall Fair Event, weekly club rides and several bike video premiers which tastefully included plenty of local talent and scenery.

The club was especially stoked about the success of the first annual Jubal Wright Classic Bike Weekend and from the money raised a check was presented to Jubal Wright for $300 to help his recovery efforts.

The weekly club rides were a continual blast throughout the summer thanks to dedicated club members offering riding tips, providing inspiration and organizing shuttles.

“It was great to see so many girls getting into the sport,” noted women’s ride leader Janelle Robichaud. “We averaged probably a dozen riders a week, of all skill levels. It was real rewarding to watch riders challenge themselves and support each other.”

The youth ride kept club member Randy Erickson busy with 15 to 20 riders each week. “The kids were awesome,” said Randy. “We’ve got some amazing young talent in this town and it’s only going to get better. Most kids love riding bikes and this is a perfect chance for them to get together.”

The well-attended bike mechanic workshops will be back next year by popular demand.

Club priorities for the winter included: continuing to work on trail signage, polishing the wicked Puddlebike web site and designing stickers for club members to show off.

More information on the club and all the exciting events they have planned can be found on their web site at www.puddlebike.com. The site also has tons of photos of talented local riders exploring all the amazing riding opportunities Williams Lake has to offer.
